Marble Patterned Bengal Cat
Many people are familiar with Bengal cats that have a spotted and/or rosetted pattern. However, there is another Bengal pattern type that you should know about. The gorgeous marble patterned Bengal cat shown below is our Adore Cats Lightening. He is a very good example of the Bengal breed and this pattern type.
As you can see, he has a very handsome face.
The marble Bengal cat coat pattern is unique in that each one is different. Many marble coats are almost fully solid on both sides. Some include a variation of swirls. Others seem have markings that are almost completely disconnected. Lightening’s pattern is a combination of solid on each side with some semi-disconnected markings as well.
Lightening also has markings that are common on many marble patterned Bengals. In the photo below, if you look at the back of his neck you will see a sort of triangular pattern that resembles a butterfly. Also, though it does not show well in the photograph, he as a dual brown stripe that goes all the way down his back to his tail.
As you can see from the above photo, he is a very healthy boy. He is not frail but rather toned and muscular as a healthy Bengal should be.

Bengal Cats – Marble Pattern
Most people are aware that Bengal cats come in different colors. However, did you know that they only come in two different patterns? The two patterns are: spotted or marble. The spotted pattern is the most common but the marble pattern is lovely too.
Pictured below are photos of one of our black and brown/gold marble patterned Bengal kitten. His name is Forrest.
Forrest was only two weeks old in this photo. When marble kittens are born, they are mainly a solid color with just a few specs of a contrasting color. As you can see, at two weeks old Forrest has developed a good amount of color in his face.
This side photo of him shows that not just his face, but his ears and paws have contrasting brown/gold color developing on them too. His body is mostly black at this point but there are flecks of color in his legs and shoulders. These areas of contrast will get larger as he grows. Even though his side looks solid black, what you cannot tell from the photo is that there is an undercoat that is lighter in different places. This will become more visible over time.
The photo below of his back is a good example of the contrasting stripe of color that marble cats have that usually starts from the back of their head to the neck. At the neck there is often a splash of color that looks like a butterfly to some people. You cannot see his well because his collar covers most of it. But just underneath the collar you can see two very distinct stripes of brown/gold that go from his neck to the base of his tail. As he grows, the brown stripes will get wider, adding even more color and interest to his pattern.
The photo below is of one of our adult marble patterned Bengal Cats (FYI, he is Forrest’s father). His name is Adore Cats Lightening. As you can see, he has contrasting pattern on his legs, tummy, around his neck and his mouth and chin is white. The color (marbling) is random.
When Lightening is standing, you can see that his shoulders, chest, hips and legs all have random patterns. What you cannot see well from the photo is that on his sides there are lighter patches of contrast that peek through the black. When he walks, you can see waves of brown/golden colored flecks show through as he moves.
In the photo below, Lightening is more interested in what is behind the backdrop than posing for the photo :-). However, I chose this photo of him standing to show his back. Here you can see the color at the base of his neck that some people refer to as a butterfly that you could not see on Forrest. He has the dual stripe down his back and interesting placement of contrasting color from this angle. You can also see how muscular Bengal cats naturally are.
The pattern for marbles varies depending on the cat. Some have a much more open pattern on their sides that look like swirls. However they are still in the marble pattern category.

Rosetted Bengal

Adore Cats Bengals Rosetted Bengal cat named Kiko at her new home. Photo used with the permission of her new family.
Bengal cats come in different patterns, colors and qualities. The photo above is of one of our highly rosetted bengals who is now owned by a wonderful couple in Chicago, IL.
Rosettes are spots that have a color inside which is different from the background coat color and the spot outline. As you can see from the photo, Kiko is highly rosetted as she has multiple rosettes on the side you can see (and on the side you can’t see). Kiko is a good example of a high quality pet Bengal. Seal Spotted Lynx Point Bengal
This is a photo of Adore Cats Bengals Seal Spotted Lynx Point (AKA Snow) Bengal kitten named Dena.
Dena is just 3 weeks old in this photo and is learning to walk.
Many people are familiar with the Brown Spotted Bengals. The Seal Spotted Lynx Point Bengals are more rare and are not seen very often. When they are born they are almost completely white and look more like a tiny snowball. As they mature, their facial markings, tail and leg stripes start to come in. Then you can see very faint spots (and if it is an exceptionally beautiful one you will see rosettes) start to fade in as the kitten develops.

Adore Cats Bengals Dena has large rosettes already forming but you have to look closely to see them.
Later, you will see their feet darken and turn black. When Bengals are born, their initial eye color is a hazy blue/black. After a couple of months, their eye color stabilizes to the adult color, which is commonly green or hazel. For the Seal Spotted Lynx Point Bengals, their eyes develop into a beautiful blue and remain blue throughout their lives. Their coat background and pattern changes, but their blue eyes are forever. Dena will look a lot like her mom, Starshine, when she grows up. Starshine’s picture is below.

This is Dena’s mom. We call her Starshine. She is spotted with lots of rosettes and a shiny glitter on her coat.
